Troop 788 Eagle Scouts

Nationally, less than 4 in 100 Scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Since 2003, over a 4 year period, 12 of Weston Troop 788 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle. And several more are making progress towards that important goal. Please support our future Eagle Scouts in their projects for the community.

Please look below for new Eagle Projects - all Scouts are welcome to contact the prospect Eagle Scout and work with him on the project.

Current Eagle Scout Candidates and Their Projects

Only 4 Scouts out of 100 make it all the way to Eagle Scout. This is not surprising. The older a boy gets the busier he is, and the harder it gets to keep his steps moving forward on the path to Eagle. His life fills up with homework, sports, girls, a car! Frankly, he also faces the peer pressure that can sometimes convince a boy that the Scouting program is ‘uncool.’ Add to this mix the difficulty of the specific requirements that a Scout must fulfill to earn the Eagle badge. He has to serve for over a year in a Position of Responsibility for his troop, he has to earn a total of 21 merit badges, including 12 required badges, and he has to design and implement a service project that requires over 100 hours of work, benefits his community and allows him to demonstrate his leadership skills.

A Scout who has set his sights on earning Eagle rank has to write up detailed reports about what he plans to do for his service project and what he has done; he has to appear before panels of adults several times, first to get approval for his project idea and later to demonstrate to them that his completed project was a success; and at the end he has to appear before another panel of adults, some of whom he has never met before, ready to answer any and all questions about his Scouting career. It’s a long and difficult path, and any Scout who makes it to the end deserves our respect.

The Eagle Scout Promise:

I reaffirm my allegiance
To the three promises of the Scout oath.
I thoughtfully recognize
And take upon myself
The obligations and responsibilities
Of an Eagle Scout.
On my honor I will do my best
To make my training and example,
My rank and my influence
Count strongly for better Scouting
And for better citizenship
In my troop,
In my community,
And in my contacts with other people.
To this I pledge my sacred honor.

We have 2 Scouts that are well on their way to Eagle. All the Scouts are invited to work with the Eagle Scout candidates and support the progress of their projects.

 Michael Fraade

For Michael's Eagle project, he built four Arks to hold Torahs for Camp Ramah, a Jewish summer camp in Massachusetts. The Arks were built from wood, with assistance from local carpenter Larry Liggett. The project used both Scouts and campers in order to build and decorate each Ark, and now all four are in regular use at Camp Ramah for rituals and prayer. Exemplifying the principle that a Scout is reverent, the project helped give hundreds of campers the opportunity to connect more strongly to Judaism in their everyday camp lives.
