Board of Review - Advancements

Insights, guidelines and additional information on the Scouts Advancements and the Board of Review.

There has been much discussion during committee meetings and Boards of Review (BOR) related to "Scout Spirit" (i.e., defined as living the Scout Oath and Scout Law in a Scout's everyday life) and the proper rules related to BOR for advancement to a higher rank. Attached please find some PDF files containing the official National BSA Advancement Policies & Procedures Manual related to BOR. I encourage each of you to read the attached 3 pages, particularly the first 1.5 pages. Each scout that appears for a BOR should understand the basic intent and rules (e.g., be properly uniformed) of the BOR. During the Scoutmaster Conference discussion each scout should be reminded of the rules.

This important event in a Scout life will be particularly meaningful if the interviewing adults have a basic understanding of the guidelines, rules and principles of the review process. We included some information for your convenience.

Thank you all for your voluntary support of Weston Troop 788 and trying to help our sons' / these young men be the best scouts possible via having a fun solid scouting program - our common goal.

YIS, Harry Spencer, Troop Committee Chairman

Bulletin and Messages

Next Cort of Honor is scheduled for June - we will contact parents to be part of the Board of Review.

Scouts should come prepared for the Board of Review - some elements of this preparation include:

  1. Be in your full Class A uniform with all patches, etc. properly in place, neat in appearance;
  2. Be able to recite the Scout Oath and Scout Law in order;
  3. Be able to discuss the meaning the Scout Spirit and how they demonstrate it in daily life and troop meetings.
  4. Download and read the documentation published on www.boyscouttrail.com/boardofreview.asp
